SUMMARY:Plaster Mould Making (Thurs & Fri\, 19 - 20 Nov 2026)
DESCRIPTION:This is an exciting two-day intensive course exploring the basics of plaster mould making. This is a great opportunity\nto get an overview of what is possible for mould making and casting in a variety of materials\, making this course ideal for complete beginners and makers with some experience who want to further develop their casting skills.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Dates & Times\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Thursday 19th & Friday 20th November 2026 10.00 – 17.00 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Session & Places\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n 2 Sessions with 10 places on the course\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Cost\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n £250.00\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Tutor\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Robert Worley\nPracticing Artist and Tutor.\nMember of Royal Society of Sculptors\,\nWebsite: www.robertworley.com\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n What Will I Learn\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n This course will cover two techniques of plaster mould making. You will create a single use plaster waste mould from a clay model\, and a reusable plaster piece mould taken from an existing object. By the end of the course you will have a concrete cast from your plaster waste mould and a wax cast from your plaster piece mould.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n What Will I Do\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Day one\nYou will model a quick clay sculpture and create a plaster waste mould from this to cast in fast set concrete. Waste moulds are single use as they are destroyed during the process. Participants then have the option to cast a small object they have brought in\, or select something from around the workshop to make a plaster piece mould. Piece moulds are made of more than one interlocking parts and can be reused for making multiple casts. \nDay two\nYou will finish the plaster piece mould and have the option to use this to make a wax cast. The concrete cast from the previous day will be chipped out of its plaster waste mould and cleaned up. When selecting an object to bring in to cast\, make sure that it is a simple three dimensional shape\, about handsized or slightly larger and preferrably something with volume. It can be made of wood\, stone\, plastic\, metal or ceramic. Please bring the object on the first day\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Additional Information\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Please note there will be a 1 hour lunch break each day (lunch not provided)\nBasic materials are included\nHealth and Safety briefing will be given\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n What Should I Bring\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Please bring a notebook/sketchbook\nIt is essential to wear old clothes and strong footwear \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n CLICK HERE TO BOOK THIS COURSE ON EVENTBRITE\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n CLICK HERE TO DOWLOAD PDF OF COURSE DETAILS

Pewter is a silver coloured alloy which melts at a low temperature and can easily be cast on a gas hob. The pewter we use for this course is lead free and has a high tin content which makes it soft to work and very good for hammering and shaping after it has been cast. Traditionally pewter has been used for cups and plates but it can also be used to cast metal sculptures and is very good for making fine intricate work. It also works well combined with wood or stone. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n What Will I Do \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Day oneExperiment with different waxes to make a small sculpture to cast. You may also bring in a wax you have already made to cast\, but please be aware that due to the rising costs of pewter try to keep the wax relatively small (eg. the size of a lemon). \nDay twoAdd casting ‘runners’ and ‘risers’ to your wax sculptures in preparation for casting\, then make plaster moulds. These moulds will then be heated to burn out the wax which will leave a negative cavity to be filled with molten pewter. \nDay threeMelt and cast molten pewter into your plaster moulds. Allow to cool and then chisel out the casts and clean them up. \nDay fourFinish your artwork\, polishing\, patination\, welding and cold working of pewter. This will be followed by instruction on how to set up your own pewter casting works. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Additional Information \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Beginners and those more experienced are welcome.\nPlease note there will be a 1 hour lunch break each day (lunch not provided)\nBasic materials are included. The cost of this course includes 1 kilo of pewter\, any additional metal used will be charged at £52 per kilo.\nHealth and Safety briefings will be given\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n What Should I Bring \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Please bring a notebook/sketchbook\nIt is essential to wear old clothes and strong footwear \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n CLICK HERE TO BOOK THIS COURSE ON EVENTBRITE\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n CLICK HERE TO DOWLOAD PDF OF COURSE DETAILS
