We will follow this up by exploring colouring through making bowl forms to also understand reinforcement of plaster to enable it be cast hollow. We will end the day with by discussing possible personal projects for the following day and other techniques that participants might wish to see demonstrated. \nDay 2\nPersonal Project and Extrapolation The second day is an open-ended exploration of the techniques learnt on day one through the development of a small personal project. The tutor will be on hand to assist and go over techniques explored on the first day and offer advice and possible routes for development. There will also be small demonstrations of various forms of finishing plaster and concrete and discussions focused on where best to use each material and alternative materials and methods. \nPlease feel free to bring material to experiment with for mould making and casting into.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Additional Information\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Please note there will be a 1 hour lunch break each day (lunch not provided)\nBasic materials are included\nOpen to all levels including beginners\nHealth and Safety briefing will be given\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n What Should I Bring\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Please bring a notebook/sketchbook\nIt is essential to wear old clothes and strong footwear \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n CLICK HERE TO BOOK THIS COURSE ON EVENTBRITE\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n CLICK HERE TO DOWLOAD PDF OF COURSE DETAILS

SUMMARY:Plaster Mould Making (Thurs & Fri\, 19 - 20 Nov 2026)
DESCRIPTION:This is an exciting two-day intensive course exploring the basics of plaster mould making. This is a great opportunity\nto get an overview of what is possible for mould making and casting in a variety of materials\, making this course ideal for complete beginners and makers with some experience who want to further develop their casting skills.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Dates & Times\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Thursday 19th & Friday 20th November 2026 10.00 – 17.00 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Session & Places\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n 2 Sessions with 10 places on the course\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Cost\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n £250.00\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Tutor\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Robert Worley\nPracticing Artist and Tutor.\nMember of Royal Society of Sculptors\,\nWebsite: www.robertworley.com\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n What Will I Learn\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n This course will cover two techniques of plaster mould making. You will create a single use plaster waste mould from a clay model\, and a reusable plaster piece mould taken from an existing object. By the end of the course you will have a concrete cast from your plaster waste mould and a wax cast from your plaster piece mould.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n What Will I Do\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Day one\nYou will model a quick clay sculpture and create a plaster waste mould from this to cast in fast set concrete. Waste moulds are single use as they are destroyed during the process. Participants then have the option to cast a small object they have brought in\, or select something from around the workshop to make a plaster piece mould. Piece moulds are made of more than one interlocking parts and can be reused for making multiple casts. \nDay two\nYou will finish the plaster piece mould and have the option to use this to make a wax cast. The concrete cast from the previous day will be chipped out of its plaster waste mould and cleaned up. When selecting an object to bring in to cast\, make sure that it is a simple three dimensional shape\, about handsized or slightly larger and preferrably something with volume.
