SUMMARY:Casting in Concrete & Plaster (Thurs & Fri\, 23 - 24 July 2026)
DESCRIPTION:In this 2 day workshop\, students will be constructing and casting shapes\, and are encouraged to experiment with different finishes\, textures and materials. Participants will have the opportunity to think through making and explore material qualities hands-on.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Dates & Times\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Thursday 23rd & Friday 24th July 2026 10.00 – 17.00 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Sessions & Places\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n 2 Sessions with 12 places on the course\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Cost\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n £260.00\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Tutor\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Giles Corby Director of LSW\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n What Will I Learn\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n This workshop is designed to both introduce participants to the methods and processes involved in casting and moulding in plaster and concrete\, whilst also encouraging the exploration of experimental mould construction and the possibilities of negative space (the mould) and positive space (the cast).\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n What Will I Do\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Day one\nMethods and Experimentation Day one will introduce the two main casting materials that we will be using through several quick moulding and casting exercises including making relief panels from clay and sketch moulds from plastic sheet/cardboard. We will follow this up by exploring colouring through making bowl forms to also understand reinforcement of plaster to enable it be cast hollow. We will end the day with by discussing possible personal projects for the following day and other techniques that participants might wish to see demonstrated. \nDay 2\nPersonal Project and Extrapolation The second day is an open-ended exploration of the techniques learnt on day one through the development of a small personal project. The tutor will be on hand to assist and go over techniques explored on the first day and offer advice and possible routes for development. There will also be small demonstrations of various forms of finishing plaster and concrete and discussions focused on where best to use each material and alternative materials and methods. \nPlease feel free to bring material to experiment with for mould making and casting into.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Additional Information\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Please note there will be a 1 hour lunch break each day (lunch not provided)\nBasic materials are included\nOpen to all levels including beginners\nHealth and Safety briefing will be given\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n What Should I Bring\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Please bring a notebook/sketchbook\nIt is essential to wear old clothes and strong footwear \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n CLICK HERE TO BOOK THIS COURSE ON EVENTBRITE\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n CLICK HERE TO DOWLOAD PDF OF COURSE DETAILS

SUMMARY:Modelling Sculpture in Wax (Sat & Sun\, 25 - 26 July 2026)
DESCRIPTION:This two day course is an introduction to working with sculpture modelling waxes. During this course students will be encouraged to experiment with the different properties of softer and harder modelling waxes\, building architecturally and experimenting with different textures\, as well as casting and assembling components from plaster moulds.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n What Will I Do \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Day OneExperiment with three types of modelling wax. Learn how to model and join wax in sheet form\, and how to build a shape on to an armature frame for support. Look at ways of preparing a finished wax for metal casting. Follow instructions for the safe handling of hot wax and the tools and equipment best suited for modelling wax sculpture. \nDay TwoCast waxes from plaster two-piece moulds of your own makingExperiment with modelling wax over plaster cores. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Additional Information \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Please note there will be a 1 hour lunch break each day (lunch not provided)\nOpen to all levels including beginners.\nBasic materials included.\nHealth and Safety briefing will be given\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n What Should I Bring \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Please bring a notebook/sketchbook\nIt is essential to wear old clothes and strong footwear \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n CLICK HERE TO BOOK THIS COURSE ON EVENTBRITE\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n CLICK HERE TO DOWLOAD PDF OF COURSE DETAILS
