This intensive 10-hour course (across 2 days) will introduce students to the versatility of clay as a sculptural material. You will be supported in making through group demonstrations and one-to-one guidance.
Ideal for a beginner who would like to experience and explore the major ways of making ceramics through pinching, coiling, slab building and slip decoration. Through practical demonstrations you will be guided through making and slip decorating a range of ceramic objects for function or sculpture depending on your interests.
Kiln firing will be explained. Selected work will be fired after the course. The work will not be glazed.
If you would like to glaze work from the course you can book a place on the Glazing course where basic glazing techniques will be taught, with advice on which glazes to use. No previous experience necessary.
The scale of the work is limited to ensure that all the students work fits into one kiln firing. The course costs includes all materials and one kiln firing. For health and safety reasons you should wear closed footwear (no sandals or flip flops). Aprons will be provided but it can get messy! Please bring a notebook.
Please note your work will not be glazed during this course. Students will be notified by email when their work is ready to collect. This may take up to a month depending on the workload. THe pick up dates and times will be emailed to you. Work may be damaged during the firing process.
